Market Notes

Compared to last week, slaughter cows and bull traded steady. Demand was good on a heavy supply of slaughter animals and a moderate supply of replacement animals. Receipts were larger than expected as dry conditions are effecting pasture conditions, causing producers to begin culling herds sooner than normal. The USDA's Cold Storage Report released last week reported that the total pounds of beef in freezers were down 2 percent from the previous month but up 25 percent from last year.

Supply included: 66% Slaughter Cattle (94% Cows, 6% Bulls); 34% Replacement Cattle (48% Stock Cows, 27% Bred Cows, 3% Bred Heifers, 21% Cow-Calf Pairs, 1% Bulls).
