Market Notes

Compared to last week, slaughter cows and slaughter bulls traded steady. Demand was good on a heavy supply of both slaughter and replacement animals. A large crowd was on hand to bid on the advertised herd sellouts which included several groups of young, black-hided bred cows and pairs. The USDA's Cold Storage report released last week reported that beef in storage was 6 percent lower than the previous month and 17 percent lower than a year ago.

Supply included: 49% Slaughter Cattle (90% Cows, 10% Bulls); 51% Replacement Cattle (17% Stock Cows, 57% Bred Cows, 2% Bred Heifers, 21% Cow-Calf Pairs, 2% Bulls).
