Market Notes

Compared to last week, slaughter cows and bulls traded mostly steady. Demand was moderate for slaughter animals and good on replacement cattle. There was a moderate supply of slaughter animals and a heavy supply of bred cows and pairs. One of the largest crowds in over a year was ringside at the regular weekly Cow and Bull Auction in West Plains. Many were looking for replacement cattle to put on the pastures which have been growing rapidly with the warmer temperatures and adequate rainfall. Two whole herd sellouts provided them with many choices of bred heifers and cows as well as pairs.

Supply included: 49% Slaughter Cattle (87% Cows, 13% Bulls); 51% Replacement Cattle (21% Stock Cows, 57% Bred Cows, 2% Bred Heifers, 19% Cow-Calf Pairs, 1% Bulls).
