Market Notes

Compared to last week, steer calves traded 3.00-6.00 lower while heifer calves traded steady to 4.00 lower. Lightly tested yearling steers and heifers traded steady to firm. Demand was moderate on a moderate supply. Cattle futures opened the week sharply lower, influenced by the bearish Cattle on Feed report released Friday. Inventories were 1 percent higher and Marketings were slightly higher but Placements were much higher than expected at 6 percent. Driving placement figures higher was an abundance of lighter weight grazing calves going to feed as wheat pastures continue to dry up.

Supply included: 100% Feeder Cattle (50% Steers, 46% Heifers, 4% Bulls). Feeder cattle supply over 600 lbs was 43%. AUCTION This Week Last Reported 1/18/2022 Last Year Total Receipts: 3,336 2,435 3,214 Feeder Cattle: 3,336(100.0%) 2,435(100.0%) 3,214(100.0%)
