Market Notes

Compared to last week, steer calves weighing 400-600 lbs sold with a higher undertone on last week's light test, with 650-700 lbs selling 4.006.00 lower and 750-850 lbs trading 3.00-4.00 lower on last week's very active market. Heifer calves weighing 400-500 lbs were not well tested, with 500-600 lbs selling with a lower undertone on few comparable sales, a near pot load of 640 lb heifers sold with a firm undertone, over 650 lbs were not well tested. Demand was good on a nice offering of good quality steer calves and moderate to good on the yearlings. CME Live and Feeder catlle futures got off to a volatile start the first full week of January with sharp triple digit losses as the Stock Market sold off over 380 points and most commodities also felling selling pressure. Slaughter cows on a light test sold near steady.

Supply included: 97% Feeder Cattle (66% Steers, 33% Heifers, 1% Bulls); 3% Slaughter Cattle (36% Steers, 45% Cows, 18% Bulls). Feeder cattle supply over 600 lbs was 57%.
