Compared to last week, a light test of 4 weight steers sold unevenly steady, with 500-600 lbs selling firm to 5.00 higher, spots 8.00 higher, 600700 lb steers got back all they lost last week and traded 6.00-12.00 higher, 700-750 lbs sold with a higher undertone with condition and quality more attractive than last week, 750-800 lbs and 850 lb steers were not well tested with last week's offering. Feeder heifers weighing 400-500 lbs were lightly tested but sold with a lower undertone, 500-550 lb sold mostly 4.00 lower, 550-600 lbs sold 5.00-8.00 lower with last week's very active market, 600-700 lbs sold mostly steady and a pot load of 740 lb heifers traded with a firm undertone. with last week's pot load. Slaughter cows sold firm to 5.00 higher. Demand was moderate to good on a moderate offering, best on a good offering of top quality steers weighing 500-750 lbs. Cattle Inventory report was released Monday and showed all cattle and calves down 2 percent, with beef cow herd shrinking 2 percent as well. March corn traded 10 cents lower all helped CME Feeder Cattle futures turn green and closed with sharp triple-digit gains.
Supply included: 88% Feeder Cattle (64% Steers, 35% Heifers, 1% Bulls); 12% Slaughter Cattle (18% Steers, 3% Heifers, 65% Cows, 14% Bulls). Feeder cattle supply over 600 lbs was 64%.
