Market Notes
Compared to last week, 400-500 lb steer calves were not well tested with last week's mostly weaned offering as most this week were not weaned, 500-550 lbs steers sold steady to 4.00 lower and 550-650 lb steers were not well tested with yearlings weighing 695-915 lbs selling with a firm undertone. Feeder heifers weighing 450-500 lbs sold steady with 500-600 lbs lightly tested and a part load and pot load of yearling heifers weighing 660 and 740 lbs sold with a firm undertone. Slaughter cows had breaking cows selling steady to 2.00 lower and boning and lean cows 2.00-4.00 lower. More unweaned calves weighing under 600 lbs were in the offering this week selling with light demand compared to the weaned offering. There were four pot loads of top quality yearling steers that sold with good demand weighing 800 -915 lbs. CME Cattle Futures turned red on Monday with Feeder Cattle futures trading with triple-digit losses.
Supply included: 89% Feeder Cattle (63% Steers, 33% Heifers, 4% Bulls); 11% Slaughter Cattle (84% Cows, 16% Bulls). Feeder cattle supply over 600 lbs was 54%.
