Market Notes

Compared to last week, steer calves weighing 400-500 lb sold steady to firm, with 500-600 lb steers selling 4.00-6.00 higher, a much lighter test of 600-650 lb steers sold steady to 4.00 lower and five pot loads of yearling steers weighing 790-955 lbs sold steady. Feeder heifers weighing 400-500 lbs and 550-600 lbs sold steady to 3.00 higher, 500-550 lbs traded 2.00-7.00 higher with 600-650 lbs trading steady and 650-700 lb sold with a higher undertone. Slaughter cows traded firm to 2.00 higher. Demand was good on a moderate supply with the best demand on the 5 weight steers and heifers as overall quality was good and sold on and active market. CME Feeder Cattle futures had a good day of trading with sharp gains of 2.00-3.40 higher as July and December corn closed 25 and 28 1/2 cents lower to start the week.

Supply included: 92% Feeder Cattle (69% Steers, 31% Heifers); 8% Slaughter Cattle (3% Steers, 9% Heifers, 83% Cows, 5% Bulls). Feeder cattle supply over 600 lbs was 51%.
