Market Notes

Compared to last week, steer calves weighing 450-500 lbs sold steady to 3.00 lower, with 500-550 lbs selling steady to 5.00 lower, 550-600 lb traded 4.00-8.00 lower, 600-700 lb steers were not well tested with the bulk new crop calves carrying flesh, 700-750 lb traded steady and a pot load of 815 lb yearling steers sold 3.00-4.00 lower than last weeks pot load lots. Feeder heifers weighing 400-500 lbs sold steady to firm, 500-600 lbs sold 3.00-500 lower with 600-750 lbs trading mostly steady. Demand was moderate to good on a heavy supply. CME cattle futures continue to break lower for the last seven days of trading have been relentless, while the corn market has been on a scorching rally; making feeder cattle prices and futures starting to feel uneasy and distressed. Slaughter cows sold fully steady to firm.

Supply included: 88% Feeder Cattle (59% Steers, 39% Heifers, 2% Bulls); 12% Slaughter Cattle (4% Steers, 10% Heifers, 72% Cows, 13% Bulls). Feeder cattle supply over 600 lbs was 39%.
