Market Notes

Compared to last week, feeders sold unevenly steady with about equal instances of 5.00 going both ways. The supply of feeders was moderate with exactly 50 percent of the feeder offering over 600 lbs. this week. Demand for feeders continues to depend a lot on health programs. A hard freeze came this week with record setting lows in some areas of the state bringing an end to the growing season. Generally that would be a sign that the weather was going to stabilize and help end some of the health issues, but just a few days later record highs were also set in parts of the state. The monthly cattle on feed report was released on Friday afternoon. Pre report estimates were spot on with official numbers providing no unwanted surprises. On feed numbers were 99 percent, placements were 96, and marketings were 104.
