Market Notes

Compared to last week, feeders under 600 lbs. sold unevenly steady with some better quality calves in good grazing condition selling with instances of 5.00 higher. Feeders over 600 lbs. sold steady to 5.00 lower. Markets felt more pressure as the week progressed and steady or higher prices became much harder to come by. The supply of feeders was heavy as there is still some back up from the couple weeks of winter storms. Demand was moderate but at lower price points. As always cattle with good health programs and weaning saw best demand and those with extra flesh are less desirable, as many buyers are looking to fill orders with cattle that and be turned out, go to gaining and not worried about. Feedlot trade as of the last report Friday was a bit over 76k head negotiated and prices were steady to slightly lower with live sales reported mostly 112.00-114.00 and dressed sales mostly 178.00-180.00. This makes 5 weeks that prices have more or less been unchanged. Boxed beef cutouts lost some ground last week, Choice closed on Friday at 231.33, down 9.20 and select 220.85, down 8.88 compared to the previous week. The Missouri Stocker Formula consists of 9824 head with a weighted average weight of 549.26, and a price value of 162.87, up .31 cents from the previous week.

Supply included: 88% Feeder Cattle (56% Steers, 0% Dairy Steers, 41% Heifers, 3% Bulls); 6% Slaughter Cattle (2% Steers, 1% Heifers, 85% Cows, 13% Bulls); 6% Replacement Cattle (13% Stock Cows, 51% Bred Cows, 11% Bred Heifers, 23% Cow-Calf Pairs, 2% Heifer Pairs, 0% Bulls).
