Market Notes
Compared to last week: Feeder steers and heifers sold with higher undertones, 700 lbs - 750 lbs steers, 600 lbs - 750 lbs heifers sold 9.00 to 13.00 higher. Artic air made for a smaller offering last week, not a lot of comparable weights to make solid comparisons. Warmer weather expected for the week got buyers out creating an exciting auction today. Demand for this eye appealing offering of green feeders was very active. Several farmer buyers in the seat today actively seeking to buy cattle. Heifers jumped a nice amount today to tighten the gap between steers and heifers. Days weaned, rounds of shots and grass fed vs hard background really increased the demand for lots of cattle. Lot size and color also effected the amount of buyers bidding. CME Feeder Cattle had a strong close today while Corn was slightly higher. Analyst suspect supply for cattle could be contracting faster that what they initially suspected. Slaughter cows 1.00 to 4.00 higher. Bulls sold with higher undertones.
Supply included: 98% Feeder Cattle (57% Steers, 43% Heifers); 2% Slaughter Cattle (90% Cows, 10% Bulls). Feeder cattle supply over 600 lbs was 83%.
