Market Notes

Compared to two weeks ago: Feeder steers and heifers steady to 2.00 higher. Moderate to good demand for feeder cattle, dependent upon their flesh condition, good demand for replacement quality heifers. A very large offering of feeder cattle, especially for this time of year, as there were many long strings of cattle of all classes. Buyers were able to buy full loads and multiple loads from one outfit allowing them to make full pens and yards of uniform cattle. There were plenty of backgrounded, feeding type steers and heifers, along with cattle suitable for running on grass, as well as many replacement quality heifers. The market was active on the strings, most notably on a consignment of 1,100 head of steers and heifers that were attractive in their light flesh condition. There were plenty of light fleshed green cattle, but there were also some cattle carrying a heavier amount of flesh. The continued upward trajectory of the corn market, along with the weak price structure of the CME Live Cattle futures, and a disappointing cash fed cattle market in spite of the robust consumer demand for beef is keeping pressure on the feeder cattle market. The next feeder cattle auction will be Friday May 21, 2021.

Supply included: 100% Feeder Cattle (48% Steers, 52% Heifers). Feeder cattle supply over 600 lbs was 89%. AUCTION This Week Last Reported 4/23/2021 Last Year Total Receipts: 6,098 6,160 4,690 Feeder Cattle: 6,098(100.0%) 6,160(100.0%) 4,690(100.0%)
