Compared to last week: Steer calves under 700 lbs sold mostly 10.00 higher with instances of 20.00 higher seen on attractive offerings. Steers over 700 lbs sold generally steady to firm. Heifers under 650 lbs sold 5.00-10.00 higher, heifers over 650 lbs sold generally steady. Quality this week was mostly average to attractive. Demand for grass cattle remains very good as buyers purchased steers up to 760 lbs and heifer up to 660 lbs for that purpose. Buyers continue to give strong premiums for cattle in thin flesh. Demand for heavy weight offerings was moderate. Backgrounded cattle were met with slightly lighter demand this week as most offerings not suitable to turn into grass cattle sold steady. Some backgrounded offerings were carrying light to moderate amounts of tag this week. Many were in moderate flesh, with a few fleshy offerings seen as well. Market activity was active again this week as a large crowds were on hand for all sales. Weigh up cows sold on mostly good demand for light to moderate offerings. Western packer buyers continue to show good demand for cows for immediate harvest, while eastern packers showed mostly moderate demand. Packers also continued to put cows away on feed. Slaughter cows sold steady to 2.00 lower on all classes. Feeding cows sold generally steady in a narrow comparison. Slaughter bulls sold steady to 2.00 higher in a narrow comparison. Bull quality this week was mostly below average as many younger, light weight bulls, continue to be seen. Young age cows suitable to feed or rebreed sold steady to 5.00 higher. Packer buyers continue to buy some young cow offerings for slaughter as cow prices have increased enough packers are competitive with feeding and rebreed buyers on these offerings.
Supply included: 45% Feeder Cattle (44% Steers, 54% Heifers, 2% Bulls); 26% Slaughter Cattle (91% Cows, 9% Bulls); 29% Replacement Cattle (25% Stock Cows, 57% Bred Cows, 17% Bred Heifers). Feeder cattle supply over 600 lbs was 45%.
