Compared to last week, Feeder Steers above 650 lbs sold steady to 3.00 higher. Feeder Heifers above 600 lbs sold steady to 2.00 higher. Slaughter Cows and Bulls sold steady with an exception of Lean Cows selling 3.00 lower. Demand was reported as good throughout the state. Compared to last week, fed slaughter steers and heifers in the feed yards sold a 1.00 higher at 165.00. In the hay market, demand remained good, prices remained steady, trade activity was slow to moderate. Producers state that the hay business remains slow with only a few new trades here and there. Field work is commencing as thoughts turn to spring with the first day of March arriving this week. According to the U.S. Drought Monitor for February 21st, Moderate to exceptional drought was trimmed in a few areas of northwestern and eastern Kansas, and adjacent parts of Nebraska. Abnormally dry conditions (D0) decreased to 12%, moderate drought (D1) remained near 8%, severe drought (D2) increased to 13.5%, extreme drought (D3) increased to near 18%, and exceptional drought (D4) decreased to near 35%.

Supply included: 94% Feeder Cattle (58% Steers, 41% Heifers, 1% Bulls); 6% Slaughter Cattle (91% Cows, 9% Bulls); 0% Replacement Cattle (70% Stock Cows, 15% Bred Cows, 10% Cow-Calf Pairs, 5% Heifer Pairs). Feeder cattle supply over 600 lbs was 79%.
