Market Notes

Compared to last week, steer calves sold mostly steady but some hard weaned 600-655 lb steers sold on a very active market and basically were 10.00 higher from the most accurate comparison two weeks ago. Heifers sold steady. Demand was good to very good with several attractive consignments of calves and more yearlings in the offering this week. Corn has traded sharply higher this week which has put a sobering mood into the cattle market, but buyers mostly shrugged it off and were actively trying to own cattle with only a few strictly feedlot bound yearlings offered. Supply was moderate. Slaughter cows sold mostly 2.00-4.00 lower except fleshier breaking cows steady. Slaughter bulls traded steady.

Supply included: 74% Feeder Cattle (43% Steers, 45% Heifers, 12% Bulls); 20% Slaughter Cattle (90% Cows, 10% Bulls); 6% Replacement Cattle (21% Stock Cows, 79% Bred Cows). Feeder cattle supply over 600 lbs was 32%.
