Market Notes

Compared to last week, steer calves under 550 lbs sold 7.00-13.00 higher and a light test of heavier weights sold mostly steady. Heifer calves under 550 lbs sold 4.00-8.00 higher and again a light test of the heavier weights steady. Mostly fancy new crop calves were offered which saw very good demand despite several straight off the cow selling right along with the 30 day weaned calves. The market has had a very optimistic feel this week as fed cattle have gained a few dollars and are trading above $1.20/cwt, boxed beef is higher and there is an attractive feeder board moving forward. Supply was moderate. Corn moved sharply higher on Thursday. Slaughter cows sold 2.00-5.00 higher, bulls steady.

Supply included: 74% Feeder Cattle (45% Steers, 44% Heifers, 11% Bulls); 25% Slaughter Cattle (91% Cows, 9% Bulls); 1% Replacement Cattle (100% Stock Cows). Feeder cattle supply over 600 lbs was 11%.
