South Dakota Weekly Cattle Auction Summary

Archived Report

8/6/2022

Total Run: 8,023

Market Notes

Compared to last week: Feeder steers under 1000 lbs 3.00 to 6.00 higher, over 1000 lbs 3.00 to 6.00 lower. Feeder heifers unevenly steady. Very good demand continues for all weights of feeder cattle. The market is very active, especially so when there are yearlings offered right off grass as the flesh condition of these cattle are very desirable. There are plenty of buyers for the feedyard backgrounded yearlings as well but they aren't carrying the compensatory gain boost that the grass yearlings are. The cash fat cattle market continues to trade dollars higher than the spot futures month, which only adds to the optimism that cattle feeders are feeling. Slaughter cows unevenly steady, bulls 3.00 higher.

Supply included: 91% Feeder Cattle (63% Steers, 37% Heifers); 9% Slaughter Cattle (59% Steers, 6% Dairy Steers, 6% Heifers, 23% Cows, 6% Bulls). Feeder cattle supply over 600 lbs was 97%.
