South Dakota Weekly Cattle Auction Summary

Archived Report

7/2/2022

Total Run: 8,236

Market Notes

Compared to last week: Feeder steers steady to 5.00 higher, except steers 1000-1100 lbs 5.00 lower. Feeder heifers 3.00 to 5.00 higher, instances to 10.00 higher. Very good demand remains for all weights of feeder cattle as auction runs are more sporadic throughout these summer months. The cash fed cattle in the north topped at 151.00, much higher than where the June Live Cattle contract went off the board at, which is helping to build a lot of optimism amongst cattle feeders for the 4th quarter of the year. New crop corn futures have fallen all the way down to right at 6.00, a far cry from the highs old crop corn reached. Slaughter cows steady to 1.00 higher, except Breakers 6.00 higher, bulls 5.00 to 6.00 higher.

Supply included: 85% Feeder Cattle (46% Steers, 54% Heifers); 15% Slaughter Cattle (45% Steers, 6% Dairy Steers, 17% Heifers, 29% Cows, 2% Bulls). Feeder cattle supply over 600 lbs was 96%.
