Market Notes
Compared to last week: Feeder steers 10.00 to 15.00 higher, except 950-1000 lbs and 1050-1100 lbs 3.00 to 5.00 higher. Feeder heifers 10.00 to 13.00 higher. Very good demand for all weights and classes of feeder cattle this week as the Live and Feeder cattle contracts rallied and the corn traded lower. The market was very active this week as farmer feeders have gotten their planting wrapped up and want to get some cattle placed in their yards while the big strings are available. The big special, free BBQ, sales always result in a very active market as cattle feeders have the opportunity to buy long strings of uniform cattle. This is the time of year where feeder cattle offerings are more sporadic and cattle feeders have to act fast or run the risk of not getting anything bought and having to wait two weeks to get the chance again. The cash fed cattle in Iowa and Nebraska continues to outperform the southern plains and the futures contracts as well, helping to greatly support the feeder cattle market.
Supply included: 95% Feeder Cattle (57% Steers, 43% Heifers); 5% Slaughter Cattle (29% Steers, 22% Dairy Steers, 26% Heifers, 22% Cows, 2% Bulls). Feeder cattle supply over 600 lbs was 86%.
