Market Notes
Compared to last week: Feeder steers under 600 lbs 8.00 to 12.00 higher, over 600 lbs 3.00 to 5.00 higher except 650-700 lbs 10.00 higher. Feeder heifers under 800 lbs 2.00 to 4.00 higher, except 550-600 lbs 8.00 higher, over 800 lbs steady. Very good demand for all weights of feeder cattle as the cash fed cattle market strengthened. The feeder cattle futures for the summer and fall months are signaling a much higher feeder market, which is driving the light feeder cattle market higher. Cattle feeders remain optimistic for the spring fat market and are willing to chase the feeder market as they want to have stock ready to market. The winter has been extremely open, which is allowing cattle to stay clean and grow easily. Corn prices continue to rise but haven ’t seemed to have much of an effect on the feeder market as producers are really bullish on the future of the cattle market. Slaughter cows 1.00 to 2.00 higher, bulls 2.00 higher.
Supply included: 96% Feeder Cattle (60% Steers, 40% Heifers); 4% Slaughter Cattle (36% Steers, 5% Dairy Steers, 24% Heifers, 33% Cows, 2% Bulls). Feeder cattle supply over 600 lbs was 82%.
