South Dakota Weekly Cattle Auction Summary

Archived Report

Total Run: 39,037

Market Notes

Compared to last week: Feeder steers under 850 lbs steady to 3.00 higher, over 850 lbs 3.00 lower. Feeder heifers steady to 2.00 lower, except 700-800 lbs 2.00 to 4.00 higher. Good to very good demand, with the best demand centered on those cattle to make yearlings of, but cattle feeders have slowed in their pursuit of chasing the feeder market. Cash fed cattle sales continue to disappoint as packers have not had to give more to get their cattle needs secured. The Live Cattle futures contracts have also failed to keep up with cattle feeders expectations as many were very bullish on the coming months as they were banking on a rally that has not come. Slaughter cows unevenly steady, bulls 5.00 lower.

Supply included: 95% Feeder Cattle (60% Steers, 40% Heifers, 0% Bulls); 5% Slaughter Cattle (44% Steers, 3% Dairy Steers, 25% Heifers, 27% Cows, 1% Bulls). Feeder cattle supply over 600 lbs was 73%.
