Compared to last week: Combined weighted average report for 3 Colorado auction markets included: Winter Livestock, La Junta Livestock, and Livestock Exchange. Severe winter weather in the northern part of the state impacted the number of calves able to hit the market this week. Several of the previously consigned cattle scheduled to sell this week were delayed until future auctions. Trade activity mostly moderate to good. Feeder steers under 500 lbs sold uneven on a light test, 500-750 lbs 9.00 to 14.00 lower, and over 750 lbs 1.00 to 6.00 lower on a light test. Feeder heifer values under 650 lbs saw the biggest drop this week, selling 10.00-17.00 lower with instances of 23.00 lower, and heifers over 650 lbs were mostly 3.00 to 4.00 lower. Average dressing slaughter cows and bulls sold steady to 4.00 higher. The next available report will be Monday, January 30, 2023.
Supply included: 74% Feeder Cattle (52% Steers, 45% Heifers, 0% Bulls, 3% Dairy Heifers); 9% Slaughter Cattle (96% Cows, 4% Bulls); 17% Replacement Cattle (67% Bred Cows, 33% Bred Heifers). Feeder cattle supply over 600 lbs was 47%.
