Market Notes
Compared to last week fly-weight steers sold 10.00 higher on a thin test. Steers from 400 to 600 lbs sold 2.00 to 6.00 lower, 600-800 lbs sold steady to 1.00 higher and over 800 lbs sold 8.00 lower. Heifers under 600 lbs sold 2.00 to 4.00 higher over 600 lbs sold steady to 3.00 lower. Slaughter cows sold 4.00 to 8.00 higher and bulls 3.00 to 5.00 higher. Little softer undertone was noted on bred cows and heifers. Demand was moderate to good throughout the week. Cattlemen continue to have optimism that mother nature will bring much needed rain across state for pastures to green up and grow for summer grazing. On the bright side, higher elevations have been receiving snow. When this snowpack melts it’s what replenishes reservoirs for summer irrigation needs.
Supply included: 71% Feeder Cattle (61% Steers, 39% Heifers); 13% Slaughter Cattle (91% Cows, 9% Bulls); 17% Replacement Cattle (18% Stock Cows, 52% Bred Cows, 30% Bred Heifers, 0% Cow-Calf Pairs). Feeder cattle supply over 600 lbs was 57%.
