Market Notes

Compared to last week steer and heifer calves sold unevenly steady. Feeder steers sold steady except 900 lbs offerings sold 2.00 lower. Feeder heifers sold steady to 3.00 higher. Slaughter cows sold steady to 2.00 lower and slaughter bulls sold 4.00 lower. Demand was moderate to good. Some of the calves had precondition shots. Quite a few slaughter cows continue to make their way to town. Ranchers continue to reduce heard numbers. Very spotty, light rain showers in some areas of the state with light snow reported in very high elevation. Dry edible bean harvest is 55% complete compared to 63% last year.

Supply included: 79% Feeder Cattle (48% Steers, 52% Heifers); 11% Slaughter Cattle (85% Cows, 15% Bulls); 10% Replacement Cattle (96% Stock Cows, 4% Bred Cows, 0% Cow-Calf Pairs). Feeder cattle supply over 600 lbs was 59%.
