Market Notes

Compared to last week on comparable offerings of steers and heifers sold unevenly steady. Slaughter cows steady, slaughter bulls steady to 3.00 higher. Cow/calf pairs mostly steady. Demand was moderate to good. All classes of cattle continue to come to town due to drought conditions and short water supplies across the reporting region. Valley video hay auction had their first sale of the season and bales of alfalfa sold from 190.00-220.00 per ton. Quite a few, dollars higher than last year. Supply included: 20% Feeder Cattle (20% Steers, 80% Heifers); 48% Slaughter Cattle (89% Cows, 11% Bulls); 32% Replacement Cattle (45% Stock Cows, 55% Cow-Calf Pairs, 0% Heifer Pairs). Feeder cattle supply over 600 lbs was 76%.
