Market Notes
Compared to last week; slaughter and feeder cows traded 1.00 to 3.00 lower. Slaughter bulls traded sharply higher on comparable trades. Not enough feeder cattle for a market comparison. Cow/calf pairs sold sharply higher. Demand was moderate to good for all offerings. With the drought continuing in some spots of the state. Some cattlemen are making a very hard decision to sell off some of their lively hood and take there pairs to town. Many ranchers have worked for years to get these superior genetics and it is tough to sell them in minutes what took a lifetime to build. Majority of the calves had been worked, bulls castrated and spring vaccinations and tagged to match their moms. First cutting of alfalfa is underway in some areas of the state. No confirmed sales, but phone lines have been busy as livestock owners are wanting to procure baled hay.
Supply included: 28% Feeder Cattle (46% Steers, 54% Heifers); 40% Slaughter Cattle (94% Cows, 6% Bulls); 33% Replacement Cattle (32% Stock Cows, 51% Cow-Calf Pairs, 17% Heifer Pairs). Feeder cattle supply over 600 lbs was 82%.
