Market Notes
Compared to last week: Feeder steers and heifers traded mostly 2.00 to 6.00 lower. Steer and heifer calves traded mostly 3.00 to 6.00 lower. Slaughter cows and bulls traded 1.00 to 2.00 lower. Trading activity was moderate on moderate buyer demand. Quality was mostly plain to average. The majority of the supply consisted of smaller packages of short weaned calves, and a few loads of nice yearlings. Demand has been light for unweaned calves, especially if they do not have a full vaccination program moving into the fall.
Supply included: 72% Feeder Cattle (62% Steers, 4% Dairy Steers, 31% Heifers, 2% Bulls, 2% Dairy Heifers); 27% Slaughter Cattle (98% Cows, 2% Bulls); 1% Replacement Cattle (40% Stock Cows, 60% Bred Cows). Feeder cattle supply over 600 lbs was 75%.
