Market Notes

Compared to last week: Steer and heifer calves sold unevenly steady. Feeder steers sold steady to 2.00 higher. Feeder heifers were steady. Slaughter cows were mostly 2.00 to 3.00 lower. Not enough comparable sales on slaughter bulls. The fancy set of 1-2 cattle were off of a reputable ranch. Quality was mostly plain to average. Trading activity and demand were moderate. According to the US Drought Monitor, temperatures were 3-5 degrees above normal from central Texas into the west and Panhandle this week.

Supply included: 86% Feeder Cattle (47% Steers, 53% Heifers, 0% Bulls); 13% Slaughter Cattle (3% Dairy Steers, 91% Cows, 6% Bulls); 1% Replacement Cattle (73% Stock Cows, 9% Bred Cows, 18% Bred Heifers). Feeder cattle supply over 600 lbs was 58%.
