MONTHLY BISON REPORT (CARCASS AND CUTS)

For the Month of September

Looking back at the September reporting period Animals Slaughtered in
Federally Inspected plants was 28% lower than in August. Young Heifers and
Aged bulls were also lower by 41% and 48% respectively, followed by Aged
Cows at 91% lower.The drop in Aged Cows and Bulls could be due to
ranchers starting their roundups and holding off on culling the older
animals until then. Some producers may be backed up on inventory, which
could have explained the drop in Young Heifers bought. Prices remained
mostly steady for Trimmings and ground wholesale meat, but volume was
lacking when compared to August, signaling the end of summer and grilling
season.
