Kentucky Weekly Livestock Summary for 3 through 9 May, 2013

Compared to last week:  Steer and Heifer calves sold uneven for the session. 
Feeder Steers and Heifers steady to 2.00 higher.  Demand moderate to good for
all classes.  Lower Live and Feeder Cattle Futures for most of the session, 
along with lower Fed Cattle markets pressured prices this week and led most 
to believe and expect lower feeder prices in the auctions, which was the case
in many instances.  On the other hand, sunny weather and green grass coupled
with work yet to be done in the fields, had many local cattlemen focused on
finishing up spring purchases and kept the optimism and price levels up in
other markets.  Boxed Beef prices have also been supportive to the beef
complex, with record Choice Cut-out prices Wednesday and again on Thursday.

Slaughter Cows and Bulls sold 2.00-4.00 higher.  Noticeable strength in the 
Cow and Bull market this week with good to very good demand.

Supply:  Slaughter Cows 10 percent; Slaughter Bulls 3 percent; Feeder cattle 85 
percent.  In the feeder supply, Steers made up approximately 43 percent and  
Heifers approximately 37 percent.  Steers and Heifers over 600 lbs totaled  
approximately 64 percent.  Replacement cattle 2 percent.
