Feeder Cattle Weighted Average Report for 05/17/2018
 
Receipts:  2258    Last Week:  5348    Year Ago:  1909
 
   Compared to last week:  Steers over 900 lbs steady
4.00 lower, other weights not well compared.  Heifers
over 850 lbs 1.00 to 7.00 lower.   Demand mostly moderate
for today's offering of average to attractive quality cattle.
Majority of the offering was load lots of steers and heifers
out of backgrounding yards weighing over 800 lbs.  Flesh
condition moderate to moderate plus.  Warm and dry weather
has many farmers focused on getting their spring planting done
before the next round of predicted rain arrives this weekend.
Light buyer attendence, with few farmer-feeders on hand.  Deferred
contract months of the CME Live Cattle futures closed steady to firm,
with August up .05 at 99.10; Oct steady at 102.30; Dec up .57 at 108.20.
Feeder cattle were 51 percent steers, 49 percent heifers; 96 percent 
weighing over 600 lbs.  Sale next Thursday May 24th, with 2,500 expected.
