Feeder Cattle Weighted Average Report for 03/15/2018
 
Receipts:  6503    Last Week:  2245    Year Ago:  5894
 
   Compared to last week:  Steers and heifers were mostly
steady to 5.00 lower.  Demand was moderate to good as buyers
were very cognizant of flesh condition.  Flesh condition
was moderate to moderate plus, with few consignments
in lighter flesh.  Many long strings and load lots of 
both homeraised and background cattle offered today.
There were a copule of packages of light weight fall calves
that were off the cow today.  "Value Added" cattle qualified
for Drug Free programs.  Cattle are starting to carry some 
tag, as warm temperatures and recent moisture have created
muddy yard conditions.  CME Cattle futures closed lower today,
with deferred months of Live Cattle down .97 to 1.17 for the 
Aug 2018 to Feb 2019 contracts.  Feeder cattle were 63 percent
steers, 37 percent heifers; 96 percent weighing over 600 lbs.
Sale next Thursday March 22, with 5,000 head expected.
