Feeder Cattle Weighted Average Report for 11/16/2017

   Compared to last week:  Steer calves under 700 lbs 2.00 to 5.00 lower,
over 700 lbs steady to 2.00 higher.  Heifer calves under 550 lbs 6.00 to
10.00 lower, over 550 lbs 4.00 to 8.00 lower.  Yearling steers unevenly
steady, instances 7.00 to 10.00 higher, heifers 2.00 to 4.00 lower.  The
yearling offering was very uneven for quality and flesh condition, making
price comparison difficult.  Very good demand for the strings of very high
quality, light fleshed steers that have a reputation to perform extremely well,
moderate to good demand for the remainder of the yearling offering.  Flesh of
yearlings ranged from light to moderate plus.  First sizeable offering of weaned
calves were met with good demand for those over 700 lbs that will finish before
the summer months.  Moderate to good demand for lighter weight calves but buyers
are very critical of flesh condition, as many of those light weaned calves were
carrying a moderate plus amount of flesh condition and were much harder to sell.
There were some light fleshed calves but majority in that moderate to moderate
plus flesh.  49 percent were steers; 51 percent heifers.  77 percent weighing
over 600 lbs.  No sale next Thurs. in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday.
Next feeder cattle sale will be Nov. 30 expecting 4,000 head of feeder cattle
starting at 9:00am.
