Weighted Average Auction report of North Wilkesboro, Norwood, Shelby, Siler City,
Smithfield and Turnersburg for the Week Ending Thursday Jan 28, 2016
Cattle Receipts: 1395 Last week: 2756 Last Year: 3625
Compared to last week, slaughter cattle were mostly steady. Feeder cattle were mostly
2.00 to 5.00 higher. Demand and market activity was moderate. Weather from winter
storm Jonas resulted in snow and ice. Offerings were lighter than normal and many
sellers did not transport their cattle to the markets. Some major buyers were unable
to attend the sales. The sale for Siler City was closed on Friday, January 22 and the
sale in Canton was closed on Monday, January 25 due to inclement weather.
Slaughter cows made up 26 percent of the offering, slaughter bulls 3 percent,
replacement cows 5 percent, other cows 3 percent, and feeders 63 percent. The feeder
supply included 32 percent steers, 43 percent heifers, and 24 percent bulls. Near 21
percent of the run weighed over 600 lbs.
