are subjected to USDA carcass grading, and marketed through
mainstream outlets. Non-Traditional markets refer to lambs destined
for slaughter outside of what would be termed as traditional markets. ***
Slaughter Sheep: Compared to last week's sale lambs sold mostly
steady to 10.00 lower with hair sheep selling steady to 10.00 higher.
Supply was remained very good and consisted primarily of hair sheep
lambs. Demand was good, especially for hair sheep lambs. Slaughter
ewes sold mostly 10.00-20.00 higher with good demand. Supply also
remained good. Price spreads on all classes of sheep are unusually
large because of market fluctuations throughout the extended sale
and increased volume. Slaughter supply consisted of 80 percent lambs,
16 percent slaughter ewes, and 4 percent slaughter bucks. All sheep
and lambs are sold by the hundredweight, on actual weights.

Slaughter Goats: Compared to last week, another very heavy supply of
slaughter goats were on offer. Slaughter kids traded unevenly steady
on poorer quality offerings. Demand was good but had trouble keeping up
with supply. Nannies traded mostly steady to 40.00 lower. There was a
very heavy supply of nannies weighing over 130 lbs and, in turn, these
nannies saw the biggest price hits from previous weeks. Bucks sold
steady to firm on a light test. Wethers sold steady to weak on a light
test and, much like the nannies, heavier wethers were not bringing the
same premiums as in weeks past. Demand was good for the Islamic holiday
of "Eidul-Adha", however, a heavy supply was a detriment to prices.
Supply consisted of 52 percent Slaughter Kids, 38 percent Slaughter
Nannies, and 10 percent bucks/billies and wethers. All goats are sold by
the head on estimated weights.
