***Report format change: Traditional markets refer to lambs that
are subjected to USDA carcass grading, and marketed through
mainstream outlets. Non-Traditional markets refer to lambs destined
for slaughter outside of what would be termed as traditional markets. ***
Slaughter Sheep: Slaughter Sheep: When compared to last Monday's sale,
light lambs sold steady to 10.00 higher with heavier lambs selling steady
to 10.00lower. This week buyers largely favored low dressing, light-weight
lambs. There was also a large run of 110-130 lbs lambs towards the end
of the sale that brought the price down. Slaughter ewes sold mostly
steady to 10.00 higher on good supply. Buyers heavily discounted the
the larger than normal supply of heavy low-dressing ewes. Buyers are
filling their orders in anticipation of the Muslim feast day that is
approaching in three weeks time. Slaughter supply consisted of 80 percent
lambs, 17 percent slaughter ewes, and 3 percent slaughter bucks. All
sheep and lambs are destined for non-traditional markets. All sheep
and lambs are sold by the hundredweight, on actual weights.
