All heifers in the sale have met minimum standards for reproductive
soundness, pelvic size, body condition and weight. A strict immunization
program has been followed including Brucellosis calf-hood vaccination and
tested negative to PI BVD. Heifers were bred to bulls meeting strict calving
ease/birth weight EPDs. Projected calving dates were given with all heifers
expected to calve from January 28th through April 30th. All heifers on offer
were screened for blemishes, muscle, frame, body condition score (BCS) and
disposition by a screening committee consisting of official graders from the
Missouri Department of Agriculture, then sorted into lots according to
calving dates and similar body types. A large crowd was on hand to see the
237 heifers that sold in 87 lots. All heifers were in the 2nd and 3rd period.
Nearly 71 percent of the heifers on offer were AI bred and averaged 151.00
per head more than their natural service mates. Sale average for the 237 head
was 1832.00 per head, 136.00 less than the November 2017 sale. The top
selling lot brought 2350.00 per head.
Replacement Bred Heifers: Medium and Large 1 1025-1300 lbs 2nd and 3rd
stage 1700.00-2050.00 per head, few fancy 2150.00-2350.00. Medium and Large
1-2 985-1250 lbs 2nd and 3rd stage 1500.00-1900.00 per head. Large 1 1250-
1325 lbs 2nd and 3rd stage 1750.00-2050.00 per head. Large 1-2 1200-1300 lbs
2nd and 3rd stage 1500.00-1550.00 per head. Medium 1 1050-1150 lbs 2nd and
3rd stage 1800.00-2050.00 per head. Medium 1-2 900-1000 lbs 2nd and 3rd
stage 1500.00-1800.00 per head. Medium and Large 2 985-1050 lbs 2nd and 3rd
stage 1475.00-1600.00 per head.
