Feeder Cattle Auction Report for 10/31/2017

Receipts:  1774    Week Ago:  1365    Year Ago:  1323

   Compared to last week, steers traded steady to 6.00 higher. Heifer calves
sold 5.00-10.00 higher on increased demand; there were too few comparable sales
of yearlings for an accurate price trend. Buyers were much more receptive to the
un-weaned calves this week, particularly the heifers under 550 lbs, however the
steers still saw discounts to their weaned peers. Fed cattle traded sharply
higher last Friday which has given a boost to the feeder market. Demand was good
to very good as price levels are being reached that we haven?t seen in a while. 
Supply was moderate. The feeder offering was made up of near 58 percent steers 
and bulls and 42 percent heifers with 40 percent over 600 lbs. Cows and bulls 
totaled 14 percent of the offering. Slaughter cows and bulls sold mostly steady.
