Feeder Cattle Auction Report for 5/10/2016

Receipts:  1719    Week Ago:  1631    Year Ago:  1601

   Compared to last week, steers under 500 lbs traded steady to
7.00 higher, 500-650 lbs sold 6.00-15.00 higher with spots 20.00
higher. Yearlings sold with a steady to higher undertone. A pkg
of 539 lb steers headed for grass sold at 202.00, 32.00 above
the high last week. Heifer calves under 400 lbs sold 6.00-10.00
higher, 400-650 lbs steady to 7.00 higher. There has been a
definite change in the mood and optimism of the buyers about
where the cattle market is headed as demand was good to very
good at noticeably higher prices. The recent gains in the futures 
markets have made quite an impact. Supply moderate. Near 56
percent steers, 41 percent heifers and 3 percent feeder bulls
with 38 percent over 600 lbs. Cows and bulls totaled 15 percent
of the offering. Slaughter cows sold steady to firm.
