Feeder Cattle Auction Report for 5/22/2018
Receipts: 1549 Week Ago: 1828 Year Ago: 1520
Compared to last Tuesday, feeder steers steady to 3.00 lower with decline
over 600 lbs. Feeder heifers under 450 lbs 2.00-4.00 lower, over 450 lbs
steady to 3.00 higher. Slaughter cows steady. Supply moderate. Near 11 percent
of the offering were cows and 28 percent of the feeders were over 600 lbs.
Feeder supply approximately 61 percent steers and bulls and 39 percent heifers.
It?s easy to be both a bull and a bear in the cattle with declining fed prices
likely in the short term while Friday?s Cattle on Feed report may confirm more
manageable numbers down the road. Lots of good quality fall calves this week
weighing 450-625 lbs. Rain amounts vary, but the hay and pasture situation has
improved considerably in this country over the past week.
