Feeder Cattle Narrative Report for 04/17/2014

Cattle and Calves: 1335        Week ago: 1516       Year Ago:  1529

   Compared to last week:  Feeder steers and heifers under 600 lbs 
1.00-3.00 higher; over 600 lbs 1.00-2.00 higher.  Receipts were mostly
thin with a few fleshy.  Trade area remains under exceptional drought
conditions with most calves on offer in very thin condition and the best
of producers breeding herds beginning to come to town.  Beef slaughter
cows and bulls steady; dairy slaughter cows 1.00-2.00 lower.  Trade and 
demand moderate to good.  Bulk of supply Medium and Large 1-2 350-950 lb
feeder steers and heifers.  Slaughter cows made up 9 percent, slaughter 
bulls less than 1 percent, bred cows and pairs less than 1 percent and 
feeders 91 percent.  The feeder supply included 64 percent steers and 36 
percent heifers.  Near 49 percent of the run weighed over 600 lbs.

   Feeder Steers: Medium and Large 1 pkg 290 lbs value added 297.00; 
340-360 lbs value added 261.00-265.00; 400-500 lbs 237.00-241.00,
value added 249.00-258.00; 500-600 lbs thin fleshed 234.00-241.00,
pkg 590 lbs 204.50; few 600-700 lbs thin fleshed 191.00-197.00, pkg 
685 lbs 187.50; pkg 725 lbs 185.00, two loads 775 lbs 180.10; pkg 835 
lbs 172.00; load 955 lbs 153.75.
   Medium and Large 1-2 few 315-380 lbs 241.00-243.00; two pkgs 450-
