Cattleman's Livestock Auction - Dalhart, TX - Thursday - 01/09/14

Cattle and Calves: 2058    Three Weeks ago: 1577       Year Ago: 2286               

   Compared to three weeks ago:  Feeder steers and heifers over 600 lbs 1.00-
3.00 higher; under 600 lbs 2.00-5.00 higher, instances 8.00-10.00 higher. 
Receipts under 600 lbs were limited and competition among buyers wanting summer 
grazing calves was stiff.  Receipts over 600 lbs were attractive with a 
significant amount of weaning time on them; they were also well received by 
buyers on hand.  Slaughter cows and bulls steady to weak.  Trade active.  Demand 
good.  Bulk of supply Medium and Large 1-2 400-775 lb feeder steers and heifers.  
Slaughter cows made up 12 percent, slaughter bulls 1 percent, bred cows and 
pairs 2 percent and feeders 85 percent.  The feeder supply included 68 percent 
steers and 32 percent heifers.  Near 73 percent of the run weighed over 600 lbs.
