Cattle and Calf Auction Report for Thursday, July 25, 2013
Cattle Calves
This Week: 978 753
Last Week: 730 653
Last Year: 831 671
Compared to last week's sale slaughter steers sold mostly 1.00-1.50 lower.
Some firmness was noted for leaner steers grading Select to low-Choice.
Demand was light to moderate for the most part, although good demand from
"halal" buyers needing leaner steers for the conclusion of the Ramadan
holiday kept a solid bottom to the market. Slaughter cows traded steady to
firm. Buyers were less concern over heat-stress this Thursday as the weather
cooled allowing for a better market for less thrifty cows. Cattle supplies
included 396 slaughter steers; 87 heifers; 438 cows; 51 bulls; and 6 feeder
calf. All prices per cwt.
