Feeder Cattle Auction Report for 3/21/2017
Receipts: 2410 Week Ago: 1815 Year Ago: 2069
Compared to last week, steers under 750 lbs sold 4.00 to 8.00 higher,
a light test of heavier weights sold steady. Heifers under 650 lbs steady to
5.00 higher, except for 600-650 lbs up to 7.00 higher for heifers with good
weighing conditions, heavier weights steady. The market has slowly worked
itself back to prices not seen since last summer after struggling to find a
bottom. Buyers seem optimistic and were eager to purchase most
cattle. Demand was moderate to mostly good, with the best demand for middle
weight steers and the least demand for plainer heifers or those carrying some
flesh. Supply was moderate. The feeder offering consisted of near 56 percent
steers and bulls, 44 percent heifers with 61 percent over 600 lbs. Cows and
bulls totaled 11 percent of the offering. Slaughter cows and bulls sold steady.
