Cattleman's Livestock Auction - Dalhart, TX - Thursday - 07/25/13

Cattle and Calves:  794      Week ago:  800      Year Ago: 1212           

   Compared to last week:  Beneficial rains over the trade area brought some new 
faces to town looking for grazing cattle to finish out the summer season.  The 
light offering of mostly gaunt feeder steers and heifers sold 2.00-3.00 higher.  
Slaughter cows and bulls 2.00-3.00 higher.  Rainfall continues to be light in 
many areas, but a good bit of the area has received enough rainfall to begin 
healing the land and restore hope for some summer and fall grazing.  Receipts 
included a few packages of gaunt pre-conditioned calves and most of these were 
in moderate to thin condition with a few fleshy, one string of plain feeder 
heifers in thin flesh condition and slaughter cows in thin to fleshy condition.  
Trade fairly active.  Demand good, especially for the thin and gaunt kinds.  
Bulk supply Medium and Large 1-2 250-750 lb feeder steers and heifers.  
Slaughter cows made up 32 percent and slaughter bulls less than 1 percent, 
replacement cows less than 1 percent, and feeders 67 percent.  The feeder supply 
included 43 percent steers and 57 percent heifers.  Near 39 percent of the run 
weighed over 600 lbs.

gaunt 176.00; few 500-600 lbs thin 164.00-166.00; 600-700 lbs gaunt 155.00-
160.00, pkg 604 lbs fancy 167.00; few 775-800 lbs 144.50-146.00; pkg 985 lbs
