Cattleman's Livestock Auction - Dalhart, TX - Thursday - 07/18/13

Cattle and Calves:  800      Week ago: 1236      Year Ago: 1681           

   Compared to last week:  Limited receipts on offer of both feeder steers and 
heifers mostly 3.00 higher.  Slaughter cows and bulls steady.  The past week 
brought much needed rainfall to much of the trade area and that slowed the 
liquidation of new crop calves and their mothers.  Rainfall was still spotted 
with some producers not out of the woods yet but enough rainfall to hope for a 
traditional fall weaning and sale of their calves.  Receipts included several 
packages of pre-conditioned calves and most of these were in moderate to thin 
condition with a few fleshy, one string of feeder steers in moderate flesh 
condition and slaughter cows in thin to fleshy condition.  Trade active.  Demand 
good.  Bulk supply Medium and Large 1-2 400-800 lb feeder steers and heifers.  
Slaughter cows made up 26 percent and slaughter bulls 1 percent, replacement 
cows 1 percent, and feeders 72 percent.  The feeder supply included 59 percent 
steers and 41 percent heifers.  Near 56 percent of the run weighed over 600 lbs.

   Steers:  Medium and Large 1 few 286 lbs pre-conditioned 213.00; few 300-400 
lbs 184.00-189.00, gaunt 195.00-200.00; pkg 493 lbs 171.00; few 500-600 lbs 
fleshy 155.00-161.00; 600-700 lbs gaunt 150.00-154.00; two loads 767 lbs 148.75.
  Medium and Large 1-2 few 227 lbs pre-conditioned 238.00; few 500-600 lbs 
140.00-148.00, pkg 527 lbs thin 163.00; 600-700 lbs 138.00-141.00; few 700-800 
lbs 135.00-141.00.
