Cattleman's Livestock Auction - Dalhart, TX - Thursday - 05/23/13
Cattle and Calves: 1495 Week ago: 1124 Year Ago: 1881
Compared to week ago: Feeder steers mostly steady to firm, heifers mostly
steady to weak. Receipts included several packages of new crop, lighter weight
calves as more and more are coming to town in the face of continuing drought.
Most of these are right off their mothers with a few having pre-weaning shots.
Extra competition from south Texas buyers made beef slaughter cows and bulls
2.00-3.00 higher. Dairy cows sold steady. Trade and demand mostly moderate on
unweaned new crop calves to good on a few thin yearlings. Demand also good on
beef type slaughter cows and bulls on offer. Bulk supply Medium and Large 1-2
250-925 lb feeder steers and heifers. Slaughter cows made up 28 percent and
slaughter bulls 1 percent, replacement cows 2 percent, and feeders 69 percent.
The feeder supply included 41 percent steers and 59 percent heifers. Near 60
percent of the run weighed over 600 lbs.
