Feeder Cattle Weighted Average Report for 06/13/2013
Cattle and Calves: 1396 Week ago: 1412 Year Ago: 1978
Compared to week ago: Yearling type Feeder steers and heifers steady to firm
and steer and heifer calves steady to weak. Slaughter cows and bulls generally
steady. Several consignments in thin to very thin condition as the extreme
drought conditions continue in many areas. Many cattle producers are forced to
wean calves earlier than usual and sell and in some cases sell cows also as
grass and grazing conditions deteriorate in various areas. Trade and demand
moderate to good on thin-fleshed offerings with a few new-crop calves and fleshy
offering only light to moderate demand. Bulk supply Medium and Large 1-2 400-
800 lb feeder steers and heifers. Slaughter cows made up 18 percent and
slaughter bulls 1 percent, replacement cows 1 percent, and feeders 80 percent.
The feeder supply included 33 percent steers and 67 percent heifers. Near 77
percent of the run weighed over 600 lbs.
